REQUEST A GRANT

The Secretariat informs eligible institutions of the value of their grants via an email memorandum, which is usually sent in January. Following receipt of these notices, institutions must complete a grant request form.

Please read all of the following instructions before completing the request form.

Instructions

Contact name(s) required

Please ensure that the portfolio page of your account, which lists the name(s) and address(es) of your institution's contact(s) for the Indirect Costs Program, is accurate and complete.

It is the institution's responsibility to update the "Contacts" section of its online account.

Once a change has been made, please advise the Secretariat by email at information@indirectcosts.gc.ca.

Expenditures must be grouped in the appropriate categories

The five expenditure categories in the request form reflect the five areas in which the program is expected to contribute to immediate outcomes. Institutions should consult the eligible and ineligible expenditures section frequently while organizing information to complete the request form.

About institution-affiliate agreements

Grants for indirect costs associated with tri-agency research performed at research hospitals and other health research institutes are delivered to these institutions through the university with which they are affiliated.

Universities are required to integrate into their grant requests each affiliate’s intended use of Indirect Costs funds.  As well, the beginning and end dates of their institution-affiliation agreements must be entered on the request form. If these agreements have expired, institutions are required to provide the Secretariat with new, signed agreements. Payments cannot be disbursed until all agreements have been received.

Note that the electronic submission process has eliminated the need to send a signed paper copy to the Secretariat.
